Ted: All my friends from high school they're here with their wives, kids. Me? My date for the night is my sticky magazine.
Robin: Sounds like high school all over again. Sorry, it's right there.
Ted: I used to believe in destiny, you know. I go to the bagel place, see a pretty girl in line, reading my favorite novel, whistling the song that's been stuck in my head all week and I think "wow, hey, maybe she's the one..." Now I think "that bitch's gonna take the last whole wheat everything bagel."
Robin: You're just focused on work.
Ted: No, it's more than that. I stopped believing. Not in some depressed-I'm-gonna-cry-during-my-toast way, not in a way I even noticed 'til tonight. It's just everyday, I think I believe a little less... And a little less... And a little less... And that... sucks. What do I do about that, Scherbatsky?
Robin: You're Ted Moesby. You start believing again.
Ted: In what? Destiny?
Robin: Chemistry. If you have chemistry, you only need one other thing.
Ted: What's that?
Robin: Timing. But timing's a bitch.

"…Unfinished. Goudy to his credit never gave up doing his dream, but that’s not usually how it goes. I mean usually it isn’t the speeding bus that keeps the brown pointy church from getting built, most of the time its just too difficult—too expensive, too scary. It’s only once you’ve stopped that you realize how hard it is to start again. So you force yourself not to want it. But its always there. And until you finish it, it will always be…"

"I am never gonna have closure. Ok? Closure doesn’t exist. One day, Don and I were moving in together, and the next thing I know, he’s on a plane to Chicago. It just ended. And no matter how much I try to forget that it happened, it would have never not happened. Don and I will always be a loose end, we’ll always be… unfinished."
